Palestinian Marxist-Leninist organization founded in 1967 by George Habash. It is the second-largest faction in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and opposes recognition of Israel, advocating a one-state solution. The group pioneered aircraft hijackings in the late 1960s-70s and its military wing is the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades. Designated a terrorist organization by the US, Japan, Canada, and the EU.
