The Plug Uglies were an American Nativist criminal street gang active in Baltimore, Maryland from 1854 to 1865. They were known for their involvement in election-day violence and street battles, often using oversized plug hats as helmets. The gang participated in the 1856 Baltimore Know-Nothing Riot and the 1863 New York City Draft Riots. They were allied with the Know Nothing political party and engaged in assassinations, shootings, and rioting.
