Peckerwood is a US racial epithet reclaimed by a white subculture associated with prison gangs and outlaw motorcycle clubs. The term originated in the 19th century as a slur against poor rural whites. In the later 20th century, it became a label for white supremacist prison gangs, often used for entry-level recruits of the Aryan Brotherhood. The subculture is most common in California, Texas, and the U.S. South and Southwest.
