The Daybreak Boys was a New York City street gang formed in the late 1840s. Active along the waterfront, they were known for unprovoked murders, robberies, and sabotaging ships. By 1852, they were suspected of 20 to 40 murders and thefts worth $200,000. The gang was broken up by police in 1859 after several gunfights killed over 12 members.
