The Crips are a primarily African-American alliance of street gangs based in Los Angeles, California, founded in 1969 by Raymond Washington and Stanley Williams. They are one of the largest and most violent street gang associations in the United States, with an estimated 30,000 to 35,000 members in 2008. Members are involved in drug trafficking, murder, robbery, and other crimes, and have a long-standing rivalry with the Bloods.
