Colombian drug trafficking organization active in northern Colombia from the 1980s to 1998. It controlled drug trade in the Caribbean region and managed routes to the Caribbean and Central America. Initially based in Santa Marta and later Barranquilla, it was led by José Rafael Abello Silva and later Alberto Orlández Gamboa. The cartel dissolved in 1998 due to arrests, deaths, and the incursion of the AUC's Northern Bloc.
