Iraqi Shia Islamist political party and paramilitary organization, formed in 1982 as the military wing of the Supreme Council for Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI). Based in Iran during the Iran-Iraq War, it fought the Ba'athist regime. After 2003, it became a political party and its fighters joined Iraqi security forces. It remains active as part of the Popular Mobilization Forces.
